Care Your Canines Canines

Sparkling white teeth, strong pinky gums. Well these are the usual indications of perfect oral conditions of a dog. But is it really possible to have these for a lovely creature like canine which never hesitates to dig the garbage, fathoming the yards and licking up to their reach? There is no point in blaming them as well since god has created them in such a way that their teeth as the mere substitute for hands. Hence as we use our hands they use their mouth and teeth as well. Apart from chewing activities they use their teeth for various purposes like holding whatever they get from the floor.

All the above factors stress the only fact that dog owners should definitely put a lot of care and attention towards the dental conditions of their beloved bowwow. Since it is an evident fact that all parts of any biological system are inter related to each other the dental disorders will in turn lead to severe other systematic side effects in other organs like kidneys, lungs, heart and so on. With the above ideas in mind if you are forwarding to take necessary steps to ensure proper dental care for your doggy then the first stage would be indeed a preliminary examination of your canine's mouth.

Check if there are any reddening of gums, foul odor and unusual swelling. If so then probably they would be the very first symptoms of unhealthy teeth. If bacteria are allowed to grow in a dog's mouth, plaque can accumulate on the teeth. If it's not addressed, it can further take them to severe concerns. Since a dog's mouth is used to play and eat, among other things, it's important to keep it in perfect shape. The best way to do this is through maintenance and prevention.

If you come across a brownish build upon the outer region of your dog's teeth, this is mostly called as tartar and needs to be removed straight away before it hardens and turns into calculus. Calculus which is the hardened form of that brownish coating can be a perfect breeding ground for bacteria which can cause severe infection. This is turn can cause periodontal disease which allows teeth to weaken and fall out. Bacteria in your dog's mouth can be a cause of other health problems as well. These bacteria can travel from the mouth, through the bloodstream which in turn can reach any parts of the body.

Finally the fact that gives relief is that all the above problems has proven remedies where the only thing to be done is that the owners should be interested in affording such facilities to their pets. The simplest way to prevent dental disorders is to make your dog to chew hard bones and recreational beef etc. Also try to get brushing tools like tooth brushes since they can alone be able to remove dirt sticking deep inside the corners. With pleasant breath and healthy teeth you can gift your lovable pets a long life.

Why would my full grown dogs coat suddenly change?
I have a 1 1/2 year old mixed breed female dog. She has always had a brown and white medium length coat. About six months ago people began to comment that she was developing pretty auburn highlights on her ears and the "feathers" on her legs and tail. She was spending a lot of time out in the sun and I attributed it to sun bleaching. Now I'm noticing that the reddish areas are also a different length and texture than the rest of her coat. They are long, prone to dredlocking, but when she dreds they actually fall right off, and they have a cottony, fluffy texture. This reddish, cottony, fluffy coat has also become apparent in symmetrical patches on both sides of her back (leaving a really comical sleak, shiny, dark brown stripe of her original coat right down the center of her back) and running down the sides of her rump. Her vet sort of scratched his head and said "weird, isn't it" when I pointed it out to him at her checkup. He said it could be sun bleaching, which could possibly be affecting the texture, but he had no explanation for why this fur appears longer than the rest of her coat, or why it breaks off so easily. It looks, and feels, for all the world as if she's had a chemical processing gone bad! Since I don't dye my dogs hair, and she hasn't had a perm recently, I'm baffled. The skin under the funky cottony red fur appears perfectly healthy, the patches don't appear to itch or cause her any discomfort, and it would seem that my grown dog is suddenly developing a new...really funky and sort of ugly...coat. Has anyone heard of anything like this? I've tried special shampoos, frequent brushing, etc but the weird coat seems to be staying. To answer a couple of people....she's not overweight at all, and she's never been shaved. She does have a fairly severe flea allergy, and at first I thought the funky coat was because, during a move, we accidentally missed a dose of her trifexis. I assumed she'd scratched off her topcoat, which she has done before in the past. However, when she resumed her treatment and stopped scratching, her coat didn't revert back to normal and the discolored and cottony patches spread. Her vet appears unconcerned but she was such a pretty dog and now she looks like we've been letting beauty school failures practice on her!

Johnson's baby shampoo on dogs? And or help on fleas?
Hello, I need advice and suggestions. I have two dogs, a Chihuahua and a Terrier Mix. Both are using Earth bath Oatmeal shampoo. I just recently switched them off of Earth Bath Tea Tree Oil. It is about 15$ per bottle. Last me for awhile but, I take my dogs out and sometimes my Terrier Mix comes home with fleas. I believe in all natural, so I decided to get Natural Defense Flea ointment. However, that did not work and it seems like it attracted fleas instead! Flea shampoo have chemicals that I do not want to use on my dogs. And the all natural stuff does not work. My terrier mix has a lot of fur so it's hard to manually take out the fleas. I used a flea comb and once in awhile I would only get 1 flea but she still itch like crazy. Anyway, someone suggested I can use Johnson's baby shampoo and leave it on my dogs coat for about 5 mins and it should kill the fleas. Is that true? Is it ok if I use baby shampoo on dogs? My chihuahua when she takes a bath using earthbath, her skin turns read and bumpy but after she dries she's back to normal. I'm unsure why my dogs itch so much? They're indoor dogs and I bath them once a week. Or once every 2 weeks. I am planning to bathe them later when I get back from school and I wanted to try out the baby shampoo. Thanks.
